A fine and rare clock dating to circa 1827. A very fine and rare example of a French Empire fire gilded ormolu / mercury clock depicting a young lady draped in a flowing dress featuring fine detail. The lady is seated and is at her desk reading a book next to a Neo Grec oil lamp. The desk is covered with a cloth, is decorated with tassels and houses the clock drum. The figure of the lady has been finely chiselled; she has very realistic features; pay particular attention to the face, hands and finger nails and hair. The clock demonstrates the finest quality of craftsmanship. To the front elevation, the clock features an ebonised dial with Roman numerals. This fine clock stands upon a rectangular base. The front elevation of the base features repoussé work with shells, scroll work, pears, apples and grapes. The original mechanism is present without modification featuring a suspension silk thread. The clock features a twin train mechanical movement striking the hours and half on a bell. The clock is regulated by a count wheel. The mechanism is stamped H. Onoré Pons 1827 and was created by the important Parisian clock maker. The original bell, pendulum and winding key are present. 43 cm high x 36.5 cm wide. Condition: Overall, the clock is in good working condition. The ormolu is in good condition and retains a very good colour. Large Ritual Nigerian Ejagham EkoI Crest Mask Sitting On Basketry Cap. Sitting on a basketry cap and meant to be mounted onto the wearers head. There is significant pigment remaining, the basket cap is slightly loose to one side but is original to the head. This is Carved from one solid piece of wood. Pigment applied around eyes with remnants of other material possibly animal skin visible on forehead, top of the head and the neck. This is too human head scale about 35cm high made of a solid piece of dense wood carved abs hollowed out to lower neck, partial stake visible which would have been used to attach to the wearers head.
