Pair Of Candlestick Cassolettes – Circa 1810 – Pierre-Philippe Thomire. A very fine pair of attractive ormolu and bronze cassolette candlesticks dating to the French Empire period circa 1810. The chiseled ormolu body in the form of an urn flanked by patinated bronze zoomorphic handles resting on a cylindrical bronze body decorated with ormolu appliques depicting playful putti with chalice and bunches of grapes. The whole raised on a bronze square base decorated with engine turned ormolu collars. The pair are surmounted with a reversible chiseled ormolu bobeche decorated with an acorn finial. The reversible nature of the lid allows the top to be in the form of an urn lid or alternatively, a candlestick. Excellent casting, chiseling and engine turning throughout. These pieces are fine, important and luxurious. The pair are in overall very good condition with some signs of usage commensurate with age. Antique French Chandelier, 1800s. A large and impressive French Victorian chandelier dating to the 1800s, comprising of ormolu, bronze and crystal drops. The chandelier is an original piece and accommodates six candles. An internal electrification allows the chandelier to be used with light bulbs also. Throughout, scrolled branches and arms issue slender multifaceted crystal drops linked and hung with multi-faceted drops. The base of the chandelier is adorned by further glass drops and is decorated with a crystal ball finial. Due to their high led content, the chandelier makes beautiful colours of the rainbow when the light/ sunlight hits the drops. 54 cm wide x 87 cm high. Overall, the chandelier is in very good condition, considering age and usage. There are no drops missing. French Mantel Clock, Circa 1860. A mid 19th century ormolu gilded clock dating to circa 1860. The clock is formed in the Rococo style and features a finely dressed lady standing next to a clock drum with enamel dial and hand painted Roman Numerals and surmounted by a hut. The clock features an 8 day mechanical movement and includes its key and pendulum. 26 cm high x 26 cm wide. Overall, the clock is in good condition and the gilding remains a good colour. The clock does show some signs of its age and usage. A fine and rare clock dating to circa 1827. A very fine and rare example of a French Empire fire gilded ormolu / mercury clock depicting a young lady draped in a flowing dress featuring fine detail. The lady is seated and is at her desk reading a book next to a Neo Grec oil lamp. The desk is covered with a cloth, is decorated with tassels and houses the clock drum. The figure of the lady has been finely chiselled; she has very realistic features; pay particular attention to the face, hands and finger nails and hair. The clock demonstrates the finest quality of craftsmanship. To the front elevation, the clock features an ebonised dial with Roman numerals. This fine clock stands upon a rectangular base. The front elevation of the base features repoussé work with shells, scroll work, pears, apples and grapes. The original mechanism is present without modification featuring a suspension silk thread. The clock features a twin train mechanical movement striking the hours and half on a bell. The clock is regulated by a count wheel. The mechanism is stamped H. Onoré Pons 1827 and was created by the important Parisian clock maker. The original bell, pendulum and winding key are present. 43 cm high x 36.5 cm wide. Condition: Overall, the clock is in good working condition. The ormolu is in good condition and retains a very good colour. Each candlestick is signed by the make, with his initials’AD’ surmounted by a symbol of a star. The chiselled bronze stem decorated with foliage supports a sconce with detachable nozzle featuring a beaded rim. The whole stands on a triform zoomorphic base with hoof feet which are separated by Greek anthemion palmettes. 26 cm high x 12.5 cm wide. Overall, the candlesticks are in very good condition and show some signs of age and usage. The ormolu retains a good colour. The foundry was established in Paris in the late eighteenth century by Jean-Baptiste-Maximilien Delafontaine and, by 1870, is listed as being located at 10 rue de l’Université. The Delafontaine foundry produced decorative works of high quality and was one of the most renowned of all the Parisian foundries. The main competitor to the Barbedienne foundry, they cast works by some of the leading sculptors of the nineteenth century, including Antoine-Louis Bayre and Mathurin Moreau. Works by Delafontaine remain in the collection of the Louvre and other leading museums. The foundry closed its doors in 1905. Please ask any questions you may have.
