Very Rare Civil War Matched Pair of Wooden Crutches, Used by Wounded Soldiers, in Hospitals, etc. Nice, VERY RARE ORIGINAL MATCHED, FULL LENGTH, COMPLETE Civil War. Even more special is that one of the pair is marked “USMD” (United States Medical Department). Scans show it all. Wood support is nicely tapered on each, and rounded on corners. Very nicely made, with nice aged patina. Armpit pieces are padded and both have the original tarred canvas covering. Nicely attached with early hand-made nails. Both of the crutches still have the original tin “protectors” at the opposite (bottom) end. A couple of small initials carved in the wood. I have included a variety of photos for your reference. VERY RARE ACCESSORY, ESPECIALLY USMD MARKED AND IN THIS CONDITION. Nice to find a COMPLETE PAIR of MILITARY MARKED AND USED CIVIL WAR CRUTCHES like this in such decent shape.
