Magnificent prudent Mallard half-tester mahogany bed. The bed stands on four massive column balusters, two of which rise high above the the headboard to support the cornice half-tester canopy. The headboard has a richly embellished broken pediment contained carved volutes and large center cartouche with carvings of flowers in high relief. The foot board columns terminate in two urn turnings typical of the Mallard style. A raised base frieze on both side rails and footboard give the bed a substantial solid appearance. Volume scroll pediments in low relief connect the side boards and footboard to the balusters. The balanced, serpentine half-tester has a broad cornice and beaded molding. Iron loops for hanging a back curtain are also present. There are no apparent sockets for pendant finials or crest atop the tester. Please note the bed is Mahogany and mahogany veneer, not walnut as formerly described.
