Antique 19th C. English Oak Court Cupboard Buffet Sideboard Hutch China Cabinet

English Oak Court Cupboard Buffet Sideboard Hutch China Cabinet. This Renaissance Revival court cupboard was hand-carved from dark oak during the latter half of the 19th century. It is embellished with low-relief cabochons and beveled panels on the upper cabinets and pediment, as well as the lower cupboard. Like all court cupboards, it consists of three pieces and is very similar to a buffet, with short or hidden legs. Up top there is an upper set of cabinets with narrow-paned doors, ornate brass escutcheons, and a central cabinet heavily carved with a romantic pastoral scene. Inside there are adjustable/removable wood shelves the stretch the length of the top section all three cabinet doors open to the same space. Next, there is the gallery with its wide display space and beautifully turned rails. The bottom half is what would be traditionally considered a “buffet” with its square design, short legs and bun facade. The beveled glass in the upper doors is not original and there are several signs of repair done to the piece over time. There have been new hinges on the bottom doors and the escutcheons n the top doors are also not original. The piece measures 93″ high, 55 1/2″ wide, 21 deep, and weighs between 150 -175 lbs. This piece is in good condition for its age. It does show signs of wear to the wood as well as from woodworm for which it has been treated. It has been updates and/or repaired on numerous occasions. Charming Berkey & Gay Mahogany or Walnut Sideboard, Server, Buffet

This is an original piece from the 1930’s. It has been passed down through my family, along with a few other pieces. I will include the chairs. I have also included two photos of the cupboard/chest that I have spent time stripping and polishing (to show the color of the wood). The buffet needs stripping and may be polished or stained. It is very heavy and sturdy. Two of the feet and one section on the top left need some attention. The top left has a section that is approximately 12×8 that had surface water damage, which can easily be repaired and there are two feet that are missing a bit of wood at the very bottom (from moving). Rare modernist cabinet, as seen attributed to Inco or Vista Furniture Co. Black iron frame with lower sliding pegboard doors. Open upper storage with left pull out drawer. Walnut laminate sides and surface. In overall excellent condition for age. The yellow finish on sliding doors and sides is not believed to be original. The wood panel on backside also looks to be a later addition (easily removed), and possibly the upper drawer. Altogether a very cool, functional, and solid piece for any modern collector.
