GREAT looking 60 year old gal w/a Bombshell body & looks to match! 1st 1959 VINTAGE BLOND PONYTAIL BARBIE #850. Barbie , Box, Stand, Booklet, Swimsuit, Sunglasses, Earrings, Open-toe High-Heels w/HOLES. Now, this is going to break my heart. When I was a little girl in the late 50’s, m. Y friend got a’Barbie’ & it had holes in the feet for it to stand up. I always remembered HER Barbie & my friend felt’she was special’… Twenty-five yrs later when I got into antiquing, I started seeing Barbies everywhere & realized how popular she had become. I had no daughters, no granddaughters, so I started picking up some (alot) that I liked. One day, I saw one in a case & asked to see her. Alas, she had HOLES in her feet! It was then that I was given a Barbie 101 tutorial. I was on the hunt for a’perfect’ 1st Barbie! Halfway thru my life back then, I had found her & fell in love. She came from quite a well-known Barbie dealer (who is still around) who I trusted. She was promised to me as having one owner, complete, ALL original, had been packed away & really not played with. I paid dearly – I had WANTED one for sooo long & I finally found an amazing one! Husband is gone, kids grown, no girls… Time to move on. She has been safely packed away all those decades Thought – I’ll get her out when the granddaughters come along… God bless you all! I bought what I liked w/quality in mind. I will describe the best I can & show pics. I have always been honest. 1st 1959 VINTAGE BLOND PONYTAIL BARBIE. BARBIE herself is gorgeous. Her color is not ivory or pale. She has a beautiful cream color – better than I can probably photograph. A little deeper where the swimsuit is. Olid, tight joints, nothing loose. Very tiny factory blemish (birthmark) on upper left arm as shown. Two pintip dots, one on left front leg above knee & other on left back leg below butt – barely seen. No stains, no abuses. Hair – Her blond ponytail hair appears NOT to have been redone or cut. Still has original topknot & beautiful, uncombed, poodle bangs. Bottom of her uncombed blond ponytail has her original plastic band, but sadly, is disintegrating (after 60 years). Face – perfect, creamy, uniform color. Eyes are side-glancing w/white irises, thick black eyeliner w/blue liner above. Her eyebrows are very prominently arched. Original goldtone hoop earrings w/ NO green ears! Ruby red lipstick matches her manicured finger & toe nails. Left tush, has a number 27. Right tush, Barbie – PATS PEND – C (inside a circle) MCMLVIII – BY – MATTEL – INC. Feet – They have the usual stains. From her black, open-toe, high-heels w/a hole in each. Ottom of right one is marked w/. Which I was told was an early mark? Left one appears to partially say JAPAN. Hole in each foot that have metal rods totally inside both feet which fit perfectly over the raised prongs of her circular, black, plastic stand. There is a tiny tear by one opening, on bottom of FOOT, but it does not inhibit. From standing solidly on her. At all (No wobble). Stand – No issues, no chips – prongs are solid & steadfast. Marked on top – Barbie TM – BY MATTEL. Marked on bottom – JAPAN – MATTEL – M (LOGO) – INTERNATIONAL R (inside a circle). Swimsuit – Dressed in her one-piece, black & white, zebra-striped, strapless swimsuit. Sunglasses – She has her 1950’s white, cats-eye, slanted, Hollywood-style sunglasses w/blue lenses – still tight & intact. Booklet – Complete, no bends, no dogears, minor cover rubbing, lays flat. Same markings as butt & stand then, PRINTED IN JAPAN. Box – Really nice CLEAN, solid, sturdy box. Colors are sharp & bright, no fading. No dents or scratches. Top has a verrry faint, superficial, tight’moosch’ on the front (as shown) that doesn’t fall thru to the inside – you really have to look to make it out. All edges & corners are sharp & tight except one edge on the bottom (as shown) that has some splitting, but not apart, it is still tight & firm. ALL advertising as seen plus – Stock No 850 – BLOND – JAPAN. Cost – Also marked in black on the end of box – 3 & two smaller oo to its upper right which is how we used to write it W-A-Y back! I have been asked about her nose – under a 10X loupe, it looks like a very, very tiny indentation like it was bumped? If that indicates anything, I wish someone could tell me. Stand is old w/some faint spottiness, no cracks, no splits, no scratches – prongs are original & have very slight wear as any metal would have after 60 yrs, but fit & match her feet perfectly as stated. I have gone thru alot of changes since then & now I need to sell the last of those (plus other goodies) that I have (over 100). Those that aren’t will be pointed out for any imperfections as honestly as I can: fading, tears, cracking, missing parts… I collected for myself & future granddaughters. Since 2011, I had 1 more grandSON w/no more to come so all must go. I hope they will be enjoyed as much as I would have w/granddaughters of my own. I would hate to open those that are still sealed since the Factory. I started to on others, but didn’t continue as I wanted my’granddaughters’ to be surprised. Now, I’d rather YOU be the 1st!
