Antique German Bisque Porcelain Putti Cherubs on Boat Meissen Style Centerpiece
Sail aboard this Victorian Era boat from the heavens! This listing is for a German bisque boat figural group depicting three putti sailing the calm seas, c. This hand-painted piece features a confident putto standing at the bow of the majestic vessel with his hair blowing in the wind. At the stern, two putto are sharing a romantic moment. The male putti whispers in the female putti’s ear, as he tenderly reaches to turn her face in for a kiss. The gentle and cherubic expressions on the puttos’ faces make this antique rise to the quality of works from Meissen, Sitzendorf, and KPM Berlin. Could the paramours be Cupid and Psyche? The bisque boat is depicted on the water over an ornate base with C scrolls. The vessel also features a putti’s face as the figurehead! This serene centerpiece is simply unparalleled in craftsmanship and detail. Very good condition with a few notable repairs, including: wings on standing putti and sitting female putti have been professionally re-sculpted/attached; slight damage to boat figurehead’s hair; and a small repair to the sitting male putti’s toe on his left foot. Please see my photographs to gauge the overall condition of this truly impressive figure. This striking figural group measures approximately 14″H by 15″W. On the underside, the piece is impressed with the numbers “1872” and 1. A breathtaking centerpiece that will make an exceptional addition to your German bisque collection!
