This antique French advertising sign was required to be displayed outside all Boucherie Chevaline, and dates from circa 1880. A realistically cast horse head made of pieced and soldered metal, possibly zinc or spelter, and while the patinated surface is appropriate to its age the item is otherwise undamaged. EARLY 1900’S RARE J. SCOTT COMPANY DETROIT, MICH. TROTTING HORSE LIGHTNING ROD WEATHERVANE. 8″H x 9″L. Features original swell bodied tin horse with fancy cast iron front unique to only J. SCOTT COMPANY and brass back tube. This arrow was designed for tube type rods and has a 3/4D ferrule area. Tin horse shows typical rust and has be reattached to vane by previous owner with epoxy and screws. There is one very small hole drilled to back tube. One leg shows some seam separation. NO BULLET HOLES, NO hoof loss, and NO dents to body. Good rust and pitting from over a 100 years of roof top exposure. Nothing detracting and only mentioned for accuracy. Photos clearly show ANY and ALL condition issues. USE ZOOM FOR DETAILED DESCR. PLEASE REVIEW PHOTOS CAREFULLY, AS THEY ARE CONSIDERED PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. Photos tell the story. Gustav Dentzel hand carved this magnificent carousel horse around 1894. His horses were produced in distinctive crouched positions. The trappings on this mare indicate that she is an inside mare. Referred to as a “Dentzel Prancer Mare”. Her head is in the “Sweet-faced” position. In 1864 Gustav emigrated to America and introduced the first amusement park carousel. The Dentzel name is identified with distinction in the pioneering and development of the hand carved carousel. Looff Mare Antique 1890s Hand Carved wooden Carousel Horse Western by John Zalar
Showing great sensitivity of expression and playful stance, this 1890s outside row prancer was created by master carver Charles Looff during his time in California. This horse is one of the rare and lifelike examples carved by John Zalar during the one year he worked for Looff in California. A detailed bridle restrains his glass-eyed head borne on an arched neck with ample flowing mane and forelock carved in high relief. Historical racing saddle is girthed over a blanket, holstered six shooter on the right, with saddle pack aft. The chest is encompassed by a fancy breastcollar with tassels. In very good condition, furnished with a genuine horsehair tail, stripped to reveal the natural wood and construction seams. Possibly a military horse, this tasteful example has been kept in a climate controlled house for the past 35 years. Stripped to natural wood, the realism, expression and patina of Zalars work is world class and fit for public display. Height: 47.5 inches from top of base, 52 inches 53.5 total height.
